  • Button cover kit (includes a button shell and back plate)
  • Fabric of your choice
  • A pair of scissors
  • A pencil or fabric marker
  • A ruler
  • A sewing needle and thread

  2. Cut out the fabric circle with your scissors.
  3. Place the fabric circle right side down on a flat surface.
  4. Place the button shell right side down in the center of the fabric circle.
  5. Wrap the fabric around the button shell, pulling tightly so that the fabric is snug around the button.
  6. Take the back plate and place it on top of the fabric-covered button shell.
  7. Using the tool provided in the button cover kit, push the back plate down into the button shell. This will create a clean and finished look for your button.
  8. Remove the button from the kit and you're done!

Tips & Tricks

  • Make sure that the fabric you choose is thick enough to cover the button shell without showing through.
  • Try experimenting with different fabrics to get different looks – for example, try using a patterned fabric for a more unique button.
  • When wrapping the fabric around the button shell, use a little dab of glue to keep it in place before you slide on the back plate. This will help keep the fabric from slipping around when you're trying to attach the back plate.
  • If you're going to be attaching your buttons to something that will be washed frequently, consider pre-washing your fabric before using it to make sure that it won't shrink later on.

Now that you know how to make fabric covered buttons, you can add a personal and unique touch to any sewing project. Experiment with different fabrics, colors, and patterns to create buttons that are truly one-of-a-kind.
