Sewing Patterns For Fabric Book Covers And Sleeves
If you're looking for a fun and easy sewing project that you can complete in just a few hours, then you're in luck! We've got a great tutorial on how to make a fabric book cover that will not only protect your books but also make them look great.

First, you'll need to gather your supplies. You'll need some fabric, interfacing, a button, and some thread. You'll also need a sewing machine, scissors, and an iron.
How to Make a Fabric Book Cover
1. Measure your book. You'll need to know the height, width, and depth of your book to determine how much fabric you'll need.
2. Cut your fabric. Cut two pieces of fabric that are each two inches longer and two inches wider than your book. Cut a third piece of fabric that is the same width as your book and twice as long plus four inches.
3. Cut your interfacing. Cut two pieces of interfacing that are the same size as your book.
4. Fuse the interfacing. Use your iron to fuse the interfacing to the wrong side of each piece of fabric.
5. Hem the third piece of fabric. Fold the third piece of fabric in half lengthwise and sew along the raw edges. Turn the piece right side out and press with your iron.
6. Sew the first two pieces of fabric together. Place the two pieces of fabric right sides together and sew along three sides, leaving one short side open.
7. Add the flaps. Fold the hemmed piece of fabric in half and place it on top of the sewn fabric pieces, right sides together. Sew along the two short sides and the long side that is opposite the opening.
8. Turn right side out. Turn the cover right side out through the opening and press with your iron.
9. Sew on the button. On the front of the cover, sew on a button that is positioned to line up with the hemmed flap.
10. Finish the cover. Fold the hemmed flap over the front of the book and pull the cover around the back. Button the cover closed and adjust the flaps as needed.
Tips & Tricks
- Use a contrasting fabric for the hemmed flap to add interest to your design.
- If you're using a lightweight fabric, consider adding a layer of batting between the fabric and interfacing for extra protection.
- Play around with different button shapes and colors to customize your cover.
- If you're making covers for multiple books, be sure to label them so you can easily find the book you're looking for.
- Consider adding a pocket to the inside of the cover to hold notes or bookmarks.
Now that you know how to make a fabric book cover, you can create one for all of your favorite books. They make great gifts, too!
