How To Create Your Own Sewing Patterns For Fabric Book Covers

Books are a great way to expand your knowledge and escape from reality! But it’s not just their content that matters, it’s also their presentation. That’s why today, I’m going to teach you how to make fabric book covers, without sewing!

Book covers made without sewing

How To:

To make these covers you’re going to need scissors, fabric glue, a paintbrush and fabric of your choice. I recommend using a thin fabric like cotton, but you can use a thick fabric like leather if you prefer.

The first step is to measure your book. You need to know how much fabric you’ll need, so measure the height, width and the length of the spine of your book. Add an extra two inches to both the height and width measurements to enable you to wrap the fabric around the book once its covered.

Now cut your fabric to the size you need for your book. If you want to decorate your book cover, now is the time to do it. You can use ribbon, sequins or any other type of decoration you wish.

Next up, it’s time to apply the glue. Start by applying glue to one side of the fabric using the paintbrush. Use a generous amount of glue, but try not to use too much, or it will bleed through the fabric.

Now it’s time to wrap the fabric around the book, starting from the back and working your way to the front. Use firm pressure to ensure the fabric sticks to the book. You may find it helpful to use a ruler to smooth out any wrinkles. Leave your book closed with the cover on until the glue dries completely.

If you have any excess fabric, trim it to about ½ inch from the spine. Use the glue to secure the extra fabric onto the inside of the cover. Repeat these steps for the front cover of the book. Leave the book to dry overnight.

Tips & Tricks:

If you’re making covers for multiple books, stick to a color scheme or theme to keep them looking cohesive. You can also use pre-made stencils to add some simple and elegant designs to your book. Don’t forget to measure your book to ensure your cover fits it perfectly!

And voila! You’ve now got a lovely fabric-covered book that looks great and protects your book from damage.

You can use this method for all different types and sizes of books. You can even make a few different covers for the same book to change it up a bit!

I hope you find this tutorial helpful and enjoyable. Happy crafting!
