How to Make Reusable Snack Bags
1. Gather your materials: cotton fabric, food-safe PUL fabric or nylon fabric, zippers, a sewing machine, scissors, and thread.
2. Cut your cotton and PUL/nylon fabrics into rectangles, with the PUL/nylon fabric being slightly smaller than the cotton fabric.
3. Place the PUL/nylon fabric on top of the cotton fabric, with the wrong sides facing each other. Pin them together along the sides and bottom.
4. Sew along the sides and bottom, leaving about an inch open at the bottom.
5. Turn the bag right side out and press it with an iron.
6. Cut a piece of zipper that is the same length as the top of your bag. Pin it to the top of your bag, with the right side of the zipper facing down onto the right side of the bag. Sew across the zipper.
7. Fold the bag in half so that the zipper is in the middle. Fold the bottom of the bag up to the top of the zipper and pin it in place. Sew along the sides and bottom to close the bag.
Tips & Tricks
- Use a brightly colored cotton fabric so that you can easily spot your snack bag in your purse or backpack.
- Make multiple sizes of snack bags for a variety of snacks.
- Clean your snack bags by wiping them with a damp cloth or hand-washing them. Do not put them in the washing machine.
- Store your snack bags in a handy container or hang them on a hook for easy access.
Try making these reusable snack bags for your next family outing, hike, or school day! You'll be able to enjoy your snacks guilt-free and in style.
